Shadows cast long upon weary lands
Eagerly pouring into even darker spaces,
Creatures scurry to their holes and caverns
Calls to salute the eve and salutations to neighbours welcome rest and the closing of the day,
The sounds escalate and fade as wings flutter and little legs scurry
Noses nuzzle
Wings cover chicks
Body and warmth shared with the beloved
Starlight awakens the night shift
Adorning skies as diamonds against black velvet
Coveted by man
and guiding all who seek direction, satisfaction and understanding
